hi folks, just thought i would let you's know what happened to me this week. last sunday i was bringing up horrable dark green phlem so made apointment with my doctor, i got one for the tues by which time i could hardly talk and phlem was worse. doctor examend me and said would have to take down a sample of spit the next morning wed, he said as i was on methtrexe he couldnt give me anything, sample would take 2 days which ment i would have to get apointment for the frid i felt really ill reseption said i coudnt get apointment for frid incase sample didnt come then and i mite have to wait till mon, but my sample came back frid i got apointment by this time i felt really ill and didnt think i would make it to surgery, the doctor i saw this time said my sample showed i had a bug she took my temp which was very high she also said my energy levels were low, she didnt know what to give me so said i had to go to hospital so they could give me an x ray, so my husband took me in the car i got x ray and was sent right up to the ward, it turns out the bug was in my lungs i was given penecillen introvinisly and doctor coudnt understand why i wasnt given penecillen on tues my bloods were low oxegen levels were low and my tempeture was very high,i got home yesterday with more penecillen to take i dont know why my own doctor didnt treat me on tues its not as if methtrexe is a new drug. i have apointment with the practise manager as i am not happy with my treatment i dont like hospitals and i just faint at the mension of needles all this could have been avoided if treatment was started sooner i will keep you all posted sylvia xxxx

Hi Sylvia,
I am so glad you are going to see the practise manager about your (non) treatment, it's a disgrace. Surely every doctor knows that if soemone taking mtx gets signs of infection they should be given antibiotics! If you had been given them when you first saw the doctor it would have saved you having to go to hospital. I hope you are feeling better now . Good luck when you have your meeting, I hope your GP learns from this .
Love, Doreen xx

hi Sylvia,
what awful treatment from your GP.
i'm struggling with an on going UTI infection but i am getting seen regularly by my GP and also keeping my Rheumy Nurse informed.
i've stopped the Methotrexate this time as the infection keeps coming back, going back to see GP on Thursday.
glad you have an appointment with the Practice Manager, you need full care where infections are concerned,
let us know how you are getting on,
Suzanne x

Hello Sylvia
Hope by now feeling slightly stronger having a bad infection like that will take a while to re-cuperate.
Your Doctor was very amiss I feel. Good luck with your appointment with the practise manager.
Keep us advised how you are

how awful- my first thoughts, reading you post is about that GP!
You could have snuffed it for not having anti-biotics in time- STUPID MAN!
Grrrr
I think that next time, when you are feeling that ill- just got straight to a and e.
Hospital for IV anti-biotics can really knock things on the head quickly.
MTX is not to messed about with, especially when it comes to lungs and as you say, its not as if its some quirky new drug.

Oh my goodness, Sylvia. Thank goodness you are OK. This must have been very frightening for you. Your GP is quite obviously not up to the job - it's absolutely astounding. There are one or two antibiotics you shouldn't take when on MTX but my GP looked it up so we know for the future. Take care, Sylvia, and hope you are fully OK again soon. Much love Jeanxxxxx

Hi Sylvia,
So glad you are feeling a bit better now. You are bound to be tired after an infection like that. If you need a nap in the afternoon have one, it's your body telling you to rest. Hope the improvement continues for you.
Love, Doreen xx
